PT Youth Council Visits Siwanoy 5th Grade

On Thursday, April 4th, a group of teens from the Pelham Together Youth Council went to Siwanoy to talk with 5th graders about their upcoming transition to middle school and their favorite experiences at Siwanoy . The high schoolers, some of whom went to Siwanoy themselves, split up to talk with small groups of students about favorite memories at Siwanoy, sharing some of their own, encouraging the excitement around middle school, and answering students’ questions. The 5th grade students wrote down both their memories and what they are most excited about for middle school on post-it notes which filled a 5th grade “time capsule.” Pelham Together Youth Advocate, Danielle Vrahimis, and Program Associate, Akaylah Ng Saye, were there to facilitate the discussion.

Some of the most common things these students anticipate about middle school….they are really looking forward to meeting new friends, seeing their friends from other schools every day, and eating new food in the cafeteria! It’s an exciting transition, and we hope the Siwanoy 5th graders make the most of every opportunity!
